A Little About Me
My name is Chris DiBlasi and this website will be used to document my journey towards achieving my goal of a successful career in sports. I have spent most of life either playing sports, or helping fellow athletes continue their athletic career. This website will parallel my current adventure in achieving my MBA in Sports Management with my internship with a sports agency.
I grew up playing all sports until I decided to pursue baseball as a career. I played professionally for 7 years traveling through the Mid-West playing at stadiums in small towns. I was always a student of the game and when I decided to hang up the cleats, I made the choice to stay in sports. While holding a full-time job, I starting building up my client base doing private instruction for baseball. The satisfaction of watching a young player mature from just playing baseball for fun to understanding the game, is what motivated me continue being an instructor. I currently provide private instruction for over 40 players and have taken a role in advising players on the college and professional process of their baseball career. In conjunction with this internship and completing my MBA, I look to increase my role within the professional sporting world and help as many baseball players achieve their life-long dream of playing professionally.
I grew up in Southern California with two older brothers and was entrenched in sports at a very young age. My competitiveness grew as I was always at a disadvantage when competing against my older brothers. I was always playing on teams with players that were a few years older than I was and demanded evolving my skills at more rapid pace than those of the same age. I started traveling playing baseball when I was 14 and had the luxury of seeing many parts of the country throughout my baseball career. The game of baseball has opened so many doors and opportunities for me and I have now come to point where I want to grasp those opportunities and run with them. I lived in Chicago for six months out of the year for 6 years, lived in Kentucky, spent three years in Arizona, and have finally settled back in Southern California. I have a niece and a nephew that have started their journey in sports and have loved every minute of watching them have fun playing. I live with my girlfriend and her two kids in which we are all actively involved in sports and I feel blessed to be a part of their lives. I have a blast taking the boys with me to my lessons and teaching them the game that has been a huge part of my life for the majority of my life. I strive to hold a position in sports where I can protect and/or direct baseball players down the right path to have a successful baseball career and life. The professional game of baseball is an exciting and fun sport to play and watch, but there is also the business side of the game that can be detrimental to an athletes career. I hope to gain tools, experience, and knowledge that will enable me to be successful with a sound foundation in representing professional athletes.
Timeline
I guess you can say that I took the extended route to finish my schooling, play professional baseball, and end up where I am at currently. I graduated from South Hills high School in West Covina, CA where I was part of the championship baseball teams my junior and senior year. I was lucky enough to play at Angel stadium my junior year and Dodger stadium my senior year. After high school, I managed to attend three junior colleges where I received my AA degree and was offered a full ride to a University to play baseball. I completed my NCAA eligibility at California State University of San Bernardino in California in 2002 and continued playing professionally in the Mid-West. During my professional career, I returned to school during my offseason and obtained my BA in Exercise Science in 2008. And yes, it took me almost eight years to complete my undergrad. I gave myself until the time I graduated to play professionally and re-evaluate my career. I decided to hang up my cleats after my 2009 season and embark on another adventure in my life. I moved to Arizona and spent 3 years trying to get into Physical Therapy school in hopes to become a certified Physical Therapist. Unfortunately, this did not work out and had to make a decision on which way I wanted to go. I decided to look into graduate programs and made the choice that I wanted to stay in sports and an MBA in Sports Management was the way to go. I moved back to California and began the MBA in Sports Management program while starting to build my client base for private hitting instruction. During the first year living in California, I ran a training facility and rehabilitated amateur and professional baseball players coming off of elbow or shoulder surgery. I was able to make great connections with players and coaches at the amateur and professional level. I continued providing hitting lessons and was able to build up a client base to where I had over thirty players.
I now have enough clients to where I able to do hitting lessons almost full-time while finishing my MBA and focusing on continuing my pursuit of staying in baseball. I have found a sports agency that is willing to allow me to perform my internship for the MBA program with the possibility of staying on full-time after the completion. I am looking forward excitedly at possibly having a career representing professional baseball players. I hope to be able to add to this story from the view point of a baseball agent. Stay tuned for more details on this fun adventure...
