"Mentoring is to support and encourage people to manage their own learning in order that they may maximise their potential, develop their skills, improve their performance and become the person they want to be." Eric Parsloe, The Oxford School of Coaching & Mentoring
After researching countless articles and mentoring websites, I believe I have come to a conclusion. Mentoring is very similar, and abstract, as a role model or leader. You can build a mentorship business offering how to teach others to be a mentor, or you stumble upon the role of a mentor by just giving effort to help teach another person the skills and knowledge of how to be a good person. Just like other leadership type roles, there are keys to being a great mentor. A mentor will provide the necessary tools for becoming successful in any endeavor you choose. A mentor will provide knowledge, organizational skills, leading by example, and support to empower the mentee. The purpose of a mentor is to help another person learn certain trades and skills to be successful in life and in any professional position.
Mentorship programs have been established on the basis of furthering the knowledge of a person that lacks experience in the given industry. A mentorship program provides a hands-on approach for the mentees so that they can gain real-life experiences that they may not normally get.
